Gridnaut Dabney reports: There’s no Inventory There
Very happy to have had the 40-region standalone make it through a bit of random use from Tuesday to Thursday last week in San Diego. There is much to reflect on from that conference experience, but I’ll process it for a few more days before dumping anything here.
Meanwhile, I have tried out the r_5767 build (thanks to Dahlia?) of Open Grid Protocol-patched OpenSim and stood up a single region, just trying to follow directions. Nothing much to it, stress-wise. The Open Grid viewer from Linden Lab has a cool additional drop-down to steer one onto compliant grids. It’s a nice addition, but honestly, it’s not all that dramatic–when compared to the excitement of getting one’s first login to a brand new standalone (even with the stock viewer) OpenSim region for the first time! I’m not in any way intending to lessen the importance of the new OpenGrid protocol and viewer and all; it’s been a boost to OpenSim to see these ties to a Linden-run grid; it’s just that however fun it is to make that leap across the grids, it’s even much more fun to land in your own big sim and share it with folks!
For the record, here’s Darb Dabney in the “10SEG_6550_9200″ region from Open Berkurodam, with the requisite Help > About dialog shown to prove it’s not just somewhere on Aditi grid.
