About:Darb Dabney’s blog

Published by Darb

I am a dedicated user of OpenSim, with a goal to apply it toward the practical creation of a paraverse that would support local governement operations. I work for City of Berkeley, California, although the vast majority of the time I spend on OpenSim is my own free time.
Any opinions published on this page are all my own, and do not necessarily represent the position of City of Berkeley.

On the Second Life Agni grid I’m Darb Dabney–although I went through rotation at Caltech, I neither graduated nor was I ultimately a Darb. None the less, Dabney House holds a special place in my heart for the remarkably unique way that it celebrated life in 1978-1979.

In this blog Darb reflects on how many years’ GIS experience can be up-ended by mere weeks spent going in-world to Second Life, and how OpenSim can help make that connection more feasible for real-world applications, like creating oodles of regions to model real-life civic reality as a paraverse or mirror-world, augmenting enterprise spatial data systems with immersive 3D.

Indeed it can be so transforming as to make one feel rather small!

Seen in Gualala For scale, Darb is indeed tiny
